We’re Green Tourism GOLD!

We have received a GOLD award from Green Tourism – the largest and most established sustainable certification programme in the world.

At Glan Morfa Lodge we are committed to providing a good quality service to all our guests whilst wherever possible minimising the environmental impact of our activities.

In 2019 we completed the installation of an Airsource Heating system that provides all heating and hot water to the cottages. Hot water is primarily heated by solar power and ‘topped up’ by Airsource when the sun doesn’t shine (which believe it or not, happens for a few months up here on Anglesey). Additional energy is generated by a wind turbine and one extra set of solar panels.

At the same time, we have switched our energy supplier to Good Energy

Which means we are now 100% renewable!

Nature & Wildlife

The 37 acres of nature reserve in which Glan Morfa Holiday Cottages is situated is managed carefully in order to attract and maintain a wide variety of wildlife from bugs to Buzzards whilst at the same time allowing as much access as possible in order for our guests to be able to explore and to fully experience the diversity of the landscape, foliage and abundant wildlife.

The sheep and ponies that live here provide free lawn mower and fertilisation services and as such support a multitude of mini eco systems throughout the site.

Wherever possible hedgerows are allowed to grow without interference and any cutting back takes place well after birds are fully fledged. Wood for external wood burners is sourced by annual sprucing of willow trees leaving two thirds un-spruced in order to minimise the impact on wildlife.

Waste Management

We’ve recently changed our waste management supplier to Gaskells Waste. They’re a local, independent and innovative waste management company.

Gaskells is carbon neutral, which means everything you put in the bins at Glan Morfa will be recycled and re-used. Any items which can’t be recycled will be used to create energy. Find out how Gaskells create energy from waste here.

They company has a huge Materials Recycling Facility at its main base in Liverpool, which processes over 70,000 tonnes of waste every single year. The MRF process removes all glass, cardboard, metals and recyclable plastics by processes such as screening, air classification, ballistic separation. The remaining waste which would traditionally be sent to landfill is then used to create refuse derived fuels.

Wherever possible, we are removing plastic items from our operations. In 2018 we replaced plastic milk cartons with small glass bottles. Our recycling bags are now fully compostable.

Energy consumption and management

We have putting  been putting a particular focus on reducing energy consumption and increasing the amount of energy we produce ourselves. To that end, we have just invested on a large project that has brought Airsource Energy heating to all cottages.

Hot water is primarily heated by solar power and ‘topped up’ by Airsource when the sun doesn’t shine (which believe it or not, happens for a few months up here on Anglesey). Additional energy is generated by a wind turbine and one extra set of solar panels.

Our energy supplier is Good Energy

Which means we use 100% renewable energy at Glan Morfa!
